First Apley Photography Competition – winners announced
After I chatted with Anna Henly earlier this week as she judged the First Apley Photography Competition, she emailed me this: “I was really impressed by the standard of the entries to this competition – judging was not easy. And looking at some of the pictures made me homesick ! I love the stark beauty of Scotland where I now live, but it is in complete contrast to the peaceful, comforting beauty of Shropshire. When I spent a few weeks at “home” last summer, down the road from Apley, I was simply amazed by the lushness of the Shropshire vegetation, presumably encouraged by a few degrees of English warmth. I hope this competition will be held again – with the introduction of a children’s category! We may run some photography courses at Apley to get them going ..”
Anna chose a winner for each of our 8 categories (listed below) & you’ll her comments on a label in the Creamery Café beside each winning photograph. Many congratulations to everyone who entered – we couldn’t be more delighted with the number & standard of entries & will definitely do it again next year !
- Abstract – Frozen puddle by Richard Greswell
- Animals – Harvest Mice by Stephen Barber (shown here & on display in the Conference Room at Apley Farm Shop)
- Buildings – Moreton Corbet Castle by John Sweetland
- Food – Food for all to enjoy by Stephen Handley
- Landscape – Looking up river by Stephen Barber – This photo was also Anna’s overall winner
- Other – Evelith Mill Woods by Hugh Stanton
- People – Daredevil by Jo Macdonald
- Shropshire – Hoar frost by Terry Hawkin
We’ll be sending Apley Farm Shop vouchers to all winners who can then come & admire the photos of fellow participants. In the Animals category, Curious by Melanie was my personal favourite – 4 horses peering towards the camera – of course because our daughters ride so much at home & we love our ponies hugely & all the fun we have with them !
