Apley jousting, Apley owls

2014-05-01, London blue flower 22014-05-01, owl in owl nesting boxThe Apley Jousting field is set up – photos coming Friday morning. Staff have been working flat out with final preparations for Apley’s Second Jousting Fair on Saturday 3 May, 10-5pm. Discounted advanced ticket sales end at midnight on Friday – only 24 hrs to get your tickets, after which you can buy them on the day.

I always had my suspicions that nesting boxes never really worked, but Lord Hamilton (Gavin) just spotted a juvenile owl in this one in an oak tree on the Estate. Hoorah ! We put it up as part of the Farm Shop conversion. Talking of owls, there was one near our home which had clearly lost its mate last weekend. It was still calling (twoo-ing I think) well into the daytime, around 11am.

London is in full flower & early leaf, with gorgeous smells of new leaves & pollen everywhere. I took this photo in our local park. The blue one is ceanothus & he white one is still to be properly identified !
